The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that all ten teams will play 7 matches at home and 7 away in a home and away format that is going to return this year. There will be 70 matches played in the league stage of Indian Premier League’s 16th edition³.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced a few new rules for IPL 2023 and has tweaked a few existing rules to make the tournament interesting. The new rules include:

• Introduction of Impact Player: In other words, this can be called as tactical substitution. The teams have to name four substitutes and one of them can be used as an impact player who can bat or bowl at any time during the match⁵.
• Teams to name final playing XI after toss: In IPL 2023, team captains can walk in with 2 different team sheets before handling their final playing 11 after the toss⁴.
• Penalty for unfair movement by keeper².
